Raymertown- Raymond John “Ray” Bieg, 79, a longtime resident of the Town of Pittstown (Raymertown) died peacefully, Tuesday, October 4, 2022, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving wife and family following a long illness.
Born in Troy, July 1, 1943, Ray was the son of the late Bernard J. and Marian (Knauer) Bieg. For over 53 years, he was the devoted husband of Elizabeth “Bette” (Quell) Bieg of Raymertown, who survives. Ray and Bette were married January 25, 1969.
Ray was a graduate of Troy High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country aboard the USS Shangri-La (CVA-38) as a boiler technician.
After leaving the service, Raymond worked at Ford Motor Company, and most recently, had been employed as a route scheduler with the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA), working in the Albany corporate office. He retired in 2006.
Ray was a longtime member St. Bonaventure Church in Speigletown and recently a member of the Brunswick Church in Troy.
He enjoyed the outdoors; the ocean, kayaking and hiking and listening to country music. He was a long time Willie Nelson fan. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his wife, Bette, Ray is survived by his daughters Laurie (Roy) Stowell, Lisa Daley, his sons Scott (Heidi) Bieg, Christian (Stephanie) Bieg, his grandchildren, Brett Hansen, Amber Lewis, Ashley Herrmann, Andrew Therrien, Amanda Jasewicz, Erika Spiak, Bennett Daley, Justin Daley, Briana Pasinello, John Bieg, Joel Bieg, Jacob Bieg, his brother Albert Bieg, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Lynne Salvi, a brother, Bernard Bieg Jr., and a son-in-law, Paul Daley.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Brunswick Church, located on White Church Lane in Brunswick, on Monday, October 10, 2022, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. A memorial service for Raymond will be held at the church on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Bill Henderson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Gerald B. H. Solomon – Saratoga National Veterans Cemetery.
