Johnsonville- Robert E. “Bob” Rose Sr., 82, a lifelong resident of the Town of Pittstown died peacefully in the comfort of his longtime Johnsonville home Monday, January 2, 2023, following a short illness.
Born in Pittstown February 22, 1940, Bob was the son of the late Irving A. and Harriette (Jones) Rose and, for over 47 years, the husband and best friend of Gale A. (Blakely) Rose, who predeceased him in July 2009. Bob and Gale were married on May 12, 1962.
Bob was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School.
After working for several years at the former Bumstead Chevrolet dealership in Troy, Bob accepted a position as a machine operator at the General Electric Company in Schenectady in the early 1960s. For over 35 years he commuted each day from Johnsonville to Schenectady, working to provide a beautiful home for Gale to raise their family and be a “stay at home mom,” which he thought was very important. After years of service, where he made many lifelong friends, Bob retired in 1995.
Bob joined the Johnsonville Volunteer Fire Company in 1963 and served as a fire fighter, was a former Assistant Chief, served as Treasurer, worked as a fire police officer for 15 years, and was named a Life Member. Additionally, he was a member of the GE Retiree’s Club, an avid season ticket holding RPI Hockey fan since 1991, enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s school sports games or concerts, raised vegetables in his garden that he gave away in front of his home, and still had time to act as the superintendent of the Millertown Cemetery for over 40 years.
Bob is survived by his four children and their spouses, Robert E. and Donna Rose Jr. of Johnsonville, Brian A. and Toni Rose of Lynchburg, VA, Marcia A. and Dan Piazza of Colonie, and Pamela M. and John Skaarup of Raymertown, a brother-in-law, William J. Blakely III of Johnsonville, a sister-in-law and her husband, Marie and Russ Derby of Valley Falls, nine cherished grandchildren, Kristofer Rose, Adam Rose, Tiffany Rose, Trever Rose, Ethan Skaarup, Colin Skaarup, Kiersten Skaarup, Tressa Moquin, and David Moquin, and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Bob will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown, with Rev.
