Albany- Robert T. “Bob” Schroeder, 87, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Born April 5, 1936, Bob was the cherished son of the Lillian and Theodore Schroeder, and the devoted brother of the late Joyce Schroeder.
A graduate of Berlin High School, Bob spent his early years on a farm in Berlin, NY. Though he initially aspired to become a lawyer, life led him to a successful career as an electrician and property owner. Notably he was the proud proprietor of “The Loft” bar in Cropseyville, NY. During his retirement, he developed a passion for Paso Fino horses, which led to a triumphant 1991 National Championship win in Ashville, NC, alongside his daughter, Deanna, riding his prized horse, Hilandera “Hilly” De Oro.
Bob was a longtime member of the NRA and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, maintaining his active membership for over six decades. He held the esteemed position of Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for several years, a role that brought him immense pride.
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Donna (Deihl) Schroeder, with whom he shared 40 beautiful years. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Deanna Codding and step-daughter, Sherry Gwinn. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his children, Laurie (Rick) Downing, Linda (Jim) Davis, Leah (Tom) Hoey, Bonnie (Tim) Daly, Billy Jo (Ken) Hilt, Brandon Schroeder, step-children, John “Scott” Gwinn and Tammie (Richard) Shelton. Additionally, he is survived by 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Woodside Cemetery, 56 Road, Poestenkill, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob’s name to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice, in recognition of their exceptional care and support during Donna’s illness.
