Bennington- Ronald J. “Ron” Holbritter, 72, a longtime resident of Pittstown, died peacefully Thursday, September 18, 2014, at the Bennington Centers for Health and Rehabilitation following a long illness.
Born in Troy, August 23, 1942, Mr. Holbritter was the son of the late Leighton and Sylvia (Wittle) Holbritter.
Ron was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School and the Junior College of Albany, earning a degree in Business Administration.
For many years he worked as an accountant for several area businesses including, the former Haynes Brother’s Ford dealership in Hoosick Falls, the former Marshall Ray Clothier’s in Troy, and as a consultant for the ADP Payroll Company. More recently he was employed for over five years as a shop foreman by the Kaman Bearing Corporation in Albany before being transferred by the firm to its Louisville, Kentucky facility. In addition, for many years he owned and operated RJ Enterprises, a small lawn care business serving the local Pittstown area, which he ran from his Nortonville home. Mr. Holbritter retired in 2007.
Ron loved listening to and making music throughout his lifetime. He played both the saxophone and keyboards and as a younger man performed with several area “Rock and Roll” bands including The Nomads and The Crossbows. He was an outstanding pitcher and enjoyed playing softball well into his late forties and followed all types of stock car racing from local short dirt tracks to Sprint Cup racing.
Mr. Holbritter is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Brian and Susan Holbritter of Schaghticoke, Eric and Molly Holbritter of West Hoosick, Aaron Holbritter of Cohoes and Jesse Holbritter of Louisville, KY, a sister, Rita Campbell of Brunswick, a sister-in-law, Eva Holbritter of Pittstown, eight grandchildren, Kendra and EvanHolbritter of Schaghticoke, Jacob Ryan of Brunswick, Reilly, Jacquelyn and Leighton Holbritter all of West Hoosick and Jack and A.J. Holbritter of Louisville and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014, beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown with Rev. Gaylord Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Norton Cemetery in Pittstown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday, September 21, from 3:00-7:00 P.M.
