Brunswick- Ronald Warren “Barney” Wright, 91, a longtime resident of Eagle Mills died suddenly, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy following a brief illness.
Born December 5, 1923 in East Fairfield, Vermont, Barney was the son of the late Waldo and Maude (Carey) Wright and for over 63 years the devoted husband of Laura (Dayton) Wright of Eagle Mills who survives. Barney and Laura were married on May 9, 1952.
Barney attended Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans, Vermont. Prior to graduating in his senior year he and several of his class mates enlisted in the armed forces to serve their country during World War II.
On October 7, 1942 at Springfield, MA, he enlisted in the United States Navy and after basic training served as a gunners mate aboard several ships including the USS San Pablo. On January 1, 1946, he was honorably discharged in Corpus Christi, TX. Of all his classmates from his hometown with whom he entered the service, Barney was the only one to make it back home alive.
After his marriage to Laura and establishing a home in Eagle Mills in the early 1950’s, he started and operated Wright Construction Company in Eagle Mills. Barney was a Master Carpenter and took the care and pride of a perfectionist in all of his work projects no matter how large or small. After almost 50 years of working in the field of general construction he retired in the year 2000.
Barney was a Life Member of the Brunswick Sportsman’s Club and the American Legion Post in Wynantskill. He was an avid reader, an outstanding outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, and the most dedicated and loving grandfather to his six grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Barney is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. and Kathleen Wright of Eagle Mills, a sister, Betty Allen of Underhill, VT, six grandchildren, Patrick Wright and Sheri Uliano of Dover, NH, Alesha M. Wright and Nate Stroffoleno of Glens Falls, and Eric Wright, Dylan Wright, Connor Wright and Madison Wright all of Eagle Mills and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son, the late Robert W. Wright in 2013, a brother, Harlie Wright and three sisters, Olive Gates, Teen Sheltra and Laura Lou Wright.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial will follow in Eagle Mills Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday, October 22nd from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Brunswick Sportsman’s Club, 78 Brunswick Sportsman Club Road, Cropseyville, NY 12052 in memory of Ronald W. “Barney” Wright.
