Brunswick - Susan M. “Sue” (Hanna) Christian, 55, a longtime resident of Brunswick, died peacefully Friday, October 6, 2023, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy following a heroic battle with cancer.
Born in Albany, July 24, 1968, Sue is the daughter of John F. and Joan M. (O’Connor) Hanna of Latham, NY, and the beautiful and beloved wife for over 18 years of Gordon W. Christian of Brunswick, all of whom survive.
A graduate of Shaker High School, Sue earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College.
For over 30 years, she practiced as a physical therapist and, most recently, was the principal owner and operator of the former Browning and Butler Physical Therapy office in Brunswick. She retired in 2021.
Sue was a member of the Brunswick Church, many professional groups, and several professional women’s groups. In her quiet time, she enjoyed the peaceful hobbies of both vegetable and floral gardening, crafting, kayaking with friends, family vacations at Old Forge, NY and spending time boating with Gordon on Lake Champlain, where they would enjoy a sunset glass of wine on the water. Her most favorite pastime, however, was spending quality time with her family and friends, whom she always put foremost in her life.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sue is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Brady and Sarah McMurtry of Niskayuna, Matthew and Lori Christian of Melrose, and Kenneth Christian of Brunswick, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Maureen Hanna of Columbia, SC, and Karen and Brian Hurd of Warwick, NY, and a granddaughter, Gweneth Christian.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane, in Brunswick. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Henderson officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions in memory of Sue, if desired, may be made to the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation, 449 NY-146, Clifton Park, NY 12065, founded by a group of physicians and patients to support local families with the financial and spiritual costs of those diagnosed and living with cancer.
