Brunswick- Thomas P. McGuirk, 92, a long time resident of Brunswick, died peacefully, Sunday, January 20, 2019, at the Hudson Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Albany following a short illness.
Born in Troy, May 6, 1926, Mr. McGuirk was the son of the late James and Catherine (Oates) McGuirk and for over 75 years the husband of Madeline (Sponable) McGuirk of Brunswick, who survives.
Mr. McGuirk was educated in the Troy City School District and for over 41 years was employed by the former Niagara Mohawk Power Company. At the time of his retirement in 1986, he had held many positions, beginning as a mechanic and ending his career as the Superintendent of Transportation for the Eastern Division of Ni-Mo reporting to Syracuse from his Albany office.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet and target shooting, and was a life member of the Hendrick Hudson Rod and Game Club in Averill Park and the North Troy Stag and Gun Club.
In addition to his wife Madeline, his survivors include three sons, Thomas McGuirk of Florida, Michael J. and Terry McGuirk of Speigletown, and James P. and Judy McGuirk of Latham, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, the late James T. McGuirk and a grandson, the late John McGuirk.
At Mr. McGuirk’s request, funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of his family. There will be no public visitation.
