
Lansingburgh- Tracy Marie Smith, 52, passed peacefully Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Troy, October 30, 1970, her surviving parents are Alice (Bonesteel) Grimsley of Brunswick and Robert Grimsley of Latham. Tracy is also survived by her husband, Grant “Scott” Smith of Lansingburgh, her daughter Jessie and grandson, Carson of Brunswick, her stepmother, Judy Grimsley and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Brian and Kyra Grimsley all of Latham, and Matthew and Melanie Schwabrow of Ravena, and two nieces and two nephews.
Tracy was a graduate of Tamarac High School, Class of 1988, and furthered her studies in cosmetology at the Educational Opportunity Center in Troy. She spent many years fulfilling her passion of cutting hair, first at Fantastic Sam’s (with her first husband, Joseph A. Falasco) and more recently by traveling to familys’ homes. Tracy was employed for almost 20 years by the NYS Department of Labor, where she held many different job titles. She changed career paths and worked at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s in Albany and was currently an administrative assistant at the CapitalCare Developmental Pediatrics office in Latham.
In her free time, Tracy enjoyed kayaking, sun bathing and fishing in her backyard, listening to good music (meaning a lot of Led Zeppelin), skiing, frequenting her favorite restaurant, Dinosaur BBQ, spending time with her grandson, and going out with her friends. Tracy can be remembered for her beautiful smile, authentic spirit, positive presence, and her genuine heart of gold.
Family and friends are invited to wear a splash of blue (Tracy’s favorite color), and call on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. A funeral service for Tracy will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Bonesteel family plot, located in Brookside Cemetery in Brunswick.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to “Walk 4 Hospice,” c/o Community Hospice, 325 N. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12205, in memory of Tracy Marie Smith. Tracy had been an active participant in “The Walk” for years and was looking forward to walking this June with her daughter. Those who wish to walk in memory of Tracy may join in by registering for The Walk for Hospice, held on June 17, 2023, at Siena College in Loudonville at 10:30 a.m. Day of registration is on site at Siena College beginning at 9:00 a.m.
