GRAFTON, NY, November 10, 2018: Wendy Lee (Crandall) Bly, wife of Robert D. Bly, died peacefully in the comfort of her home after a brief illness, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Born June 25, 1958 in Cambridge, New York, Wendy was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Crandall and the late Trevah Yerke Crandall Burdick. A lifelong resident of Grafton, she was a 1976 graduate of Berlin High School. She attended SUNY Cobleskill where she attained an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. Upon graduation, Wendy returned to her community and began a daycare center for young children in Petersburgh and worked part-time as a rural United States Mail carrier in Eastern Rensselaer County. She began her career as a School Bus Driver for the Berlin School District for several years, and then for more than twenty years, with the Brittonkill School District, from where she retired in 2010. In her retirement, she managed Bly Fence Installation with her husband Bob and worked tirelessly alongside him on many commercial and residential fence installations throughout the Capitol District.
Wendy was taught the art of crochet as a little girl by her beloved grandmother Evelyn Crandall and it was a hobby she enjoyed throughout her life, passionately creating beautifully designed and whimsical crocheted pieces for family and friends. She was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed trips to historical places and craft fairs with her dear friends Donna Walker and Sarah Yerke Briggs. She dearly loved New England and the ocean, and she and Bob traveled often to Old Orchard Beach, ME, spent many summers digging clams together in Rhode Island, and camping on Cape Cod’s National Seashore. Wendy had a sharp mind, a quick wit, and a keen knack for lively conversation. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who loved her so.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sisters, two children, five grandchildren: Logan, Jakob, Madison, Joseph, and Stephen, and many loving nieces, nephews and cherished cousins. She was predeceased in 2014 by her sister, Cindy Ann (Crandall) Gentner.
At Wendy’s request there will be no calling hours or formal services and burial will be private. Those wishing to remember Wendy in a special way are asked to consider a donation to the Grafton Rescue Squad, PO Box 2, Grafton, NY 12082 in Memory of Wendy L. Bly.
Funeral details are under the direction of the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. To leave a condolence for the family please visit the funeral home Facebook page.
