Melrose- William F. “Will” Rowe, 17, a lifelong resident of Melrose, died suddenly, Wednesday, May 31, 2017.
Born in Syracuse, June 23, 1999, Will is the beloved son of Robert V. and Melissa A. (Kelsch) Rowe and the brother of Matthew J. Rowe, all of Melrose.
Will was a member of the senior class of Hoosic Valley High School and was set to graduate on his 18th birthday as part of the school’s “Class of 2017.” At Hoosic Valley he was a member of the Boys’ Varsity Soccer and both the Varsity Indoor and Outdoor Track Teams.
An avid outdoorsman, Will loved campfires with Matt and Chantz, bowhunting and fishing and spending time with and assisting his grandfather, Bill, while learning all aspects of operating a firewood processing business and especially loved to spend time with Morgan.
Additionally, Will is a 12-year member in both the Equitation Unlimited and the Valley Falls Cattle Club. He also was a member of the North Country Western Interscholastic Riding Team. He enjoyed showing his registered Ayrshire cows at the fair. His favorite past time was riding and showing horses, he recently purchased his own horse “Flirt.” He especially loved to show at the 4-H and SOEE (Show Off Equine Event) shows where he was a great big brother to his SOEE sisters.
Recently Will was awarded the Rensselaer County 4-H “Lohnes Citizenship Award” which is based on involvement and commitment to 4-H, his peers, leaders and community.
In addition to his parents and brother, Will is survived by his paternal grandparents, William and Judy Rowe of Tomhannock,
His maternal grandmother, Linda Kelsch of Mechanicville, paternal aunt and uncle, Jennifer and David Collins of Waterville, maternal aunt and uncle, Deborahlee and Grant Adams of West Haven, VT, five cousins, Harley, Francis, Wyatt, Ellie and Natalee and his many Hoosic Valley High School Classmates and friends in the Schaghticoke Fair and 4H Communities. Will was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, the late Francis A. Kelsch Sr. and an uncle, the late Francis A. Kelsch Jr.
A Mass of Christian Resurrection for William will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. by Father George Fleming at Transfiguration Parish- South Site, located at 50 Hillview Drive in Spiegletown. A reception at the Schaghticoke Fair Ground will follow. Burial will be private at the convenience of the Rowe family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at Transfiguration Parish-South Site on Monday, June 5th from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M.
