William L. Austin BRUNSWICK - William “Bill” L. Austin, 75, a longtime resident of Brunswick, died Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Albany Medical Center following a long battle with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy.
Born in the Town of Cambridge on January 19, 1940 and raised on the family farm in Shaftsbury, VT, Bill was the son of the late Edward and Rhea (Marsh) Austin Sr. and the husband of the late Jillean (Birrell) Austin and for over ten years the husband of Ann (Kaiser) Austin of Brunswick who survives. Bill and Ann were married on May 16, 2005.
Bill was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School and earned an Associates Degree from Hudson Valley Community College. For over thirty years he was employed by the Town of Brunswick and served as the town’s Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer. Bill enjoyed making many new friends and assiting his neighbors through his work while advising and counseling them on their building or construction projects. In 2002, due to the failing health of his wife Jill, he retired early to assist in her care.
Bill was a member of the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church and a former member of the Volunteer Fire Company of Center Brunswick. Since retiring Bill has enjoyed the hobby of traveling with Ann, especially to Florida.
In addition to his wife, Ann, Bill is survived by two sons, David (Marisa) Austin of New Jersey and Kenneth Austin, three step-daughters and a step-son, MaryAnn (Paul) Donnelly of Eagle Mills, Michelle (Andy) Raymond, Elizabeth (Wyatt) Thompson of Bedford, NH and Karl Austin of VT, a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Austin and John Settanny, several grand children, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and late wife Jill, he was predeceased by a son, the late Eric Austin and several brothers and sisters.
At the request of the family funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. Inurnment at Memory’s Garden in Colonie will be held in the spring. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, if desired, may be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Upstate New York, 1 Marcus Blvd., #203, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of William “Bill” L. Austin.
