Saratoga Springs- William R. “Bill” Bergan, 79, of Saratoga Springs, died unexpectedly on May 18, 2024. Born in Auburn, NY, in 1944, Bill was the son of the late Charles E. and Vivian (Stickle) Bergan. Bill is survived by his wife, Jennifer Jensen Bergan, his children, William (Rosanne), James (Mary), Ryan (Iride), and Mckenzie (Alan), his nine grandchildren, William, Caroline, John, Jimmy, Michael, Liam, Quinn, Shamus, and Ronan, his brother, Robert Bergan, his sister, Cynthia Stanton, nieces and nephews, his brothers and sisters-in-law, who considered him to be an important part of the Jensen family, and his much loved dog, Lucy.
Bill attended West High School in Auburn, where was a wrestler and lost the NY State title by one point. He continued his athleticism through the date of his death by doing one-handed push-ups. He went on to attend the former Auburn Community College (Onondaga Community College) and was employed by TNT/Redstar Transportation for many years as the national sales representative, until retiring in 1994. He married the love of his life, Jennifer, in 1988, and they celebrated over 35 years together.
Bill was known for his big heart, and his even bigger tips, tipping everyone from waitresses and bartenders to the employees of Stewarts Shops. He loved the community of Saratoga, telling long stories to anyone who would listen, and grabbing the microphone at any chance he could to sing, “That’s Life.” Needless to say, he will be missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service for Bill will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Therese Chapel, located at 1 Wilton-Gansevoort Road, in Gansevoort with Deacon Dan officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m.–12:45 p.m. prior to the service.
At the family’s request, memorial contributions may be made to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, 6010 County Farm Road, Ballston Spa, New York 12020, in memory of William R. “Bill” Bergan.
